They are only the latest visible manifestation of a series of decisions made long before.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"981\">The project developed together with Tony is interesting for this very reason:<br \/>\nwas not created with the goal of \u201cselling a lot,\u201d but with the goal of <strong data-start=\"958\" data-end=\"980\">holding up the market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"983\" data-end=\"1049\">And when a project is built to hold up, the market responds.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1056\" data-end=\"1121\">The real beginning of the project: price as a strategic constraint<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1123\" data-end=\"1219\">The first decision was not about fragrance. Nor about design. Nor even the production.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1221\" data-end=\"1271\">The starting point was the <strong data-start=\"1253\" data-end=\"1270\">retail price<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1273\" data-end=\"1428\">In a direct online launch and particularly through social commerce channels, price is not a final variable.<br data-start=\"1396\" data-end=\"1399\" \/>It is a <strong data-start=\"1405\" data-end=\"1427\">structural choice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1450\">The price defines:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1451\" data-end=\"1603\">\n<li data-start=\"1451\" data-end=\"1492\">\n<p data-start=\"1453\" data-end=\"1492\">the customer's level of expectation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1493\" data-end=\"1520\">\n<p data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1520\">the perception of value<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1521\" data-end=\"1560\">\n<p data-start=\"1523\" data-end=\"1560\">design freedom (or limits)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1561\" data-end=\"1603\">\n<p data-start=\"1563\" data-end=\"1603\">the sustainability of the model over time<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1605\" data-end=\"1787\">Starting with price imposed a definite discipline on the project. It made some roads impassable from the start.<br data-start=\"1725\" data-end=\"1728\" \/>And, because of this, he clarified subsequent decisions.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1794\" data-end=\"1855\">Design not to \u201cmake beautiful,\u201d but to reduce risk<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1857\" data-end=\"1917\">The design phase took almost <strong data-start=\"1894\" data-end=\"1916\">six months of work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1919\" data-end=\"2082\">A time that, observed from the outside, might seem excessive. In reality, it was time invested in <strong data-start=\"2027\" data-end=\"2049\">reduce the risk<\/strong>, not to add complexity.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2084\" data-end=\"2210\">Every design choice-materials, proportions, weight, finishes, formats-was evaluated by always asking the same question:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2212\" data-end=\"2273\"><em data-start=\"2212\" data-end=\"2273\">Does this decision facilitate or hinder customer choice?<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2275\" data-end=\"2387\">Design was not used as an expressive tool. It has been used as <strong data-start=\"2361\" data-end=\"2386\">decision-making tool<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2389\" data-end=\"2606\">In a digital context, where the product is judged before it is even touched, design becomes the first level of trust. And trust, even before desirability, is what enables purchase.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2613\" data-end=\"2668\">Formats, weights, and logistics as part of the experience<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2670\" data-end=\"2772\">One of the less visible but more crucial parts of the project was the definition of formats.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2774\" data-end=\"2798\">The choice to develop:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2799\" data-end=\"2848\">\n<li data-start=\"2799\" data-end=\"2823\">\n<p data-start=\"2801\" data-end=\"2823\">a format <strong data-start=\"2812\" data-end=\"2821\">10 ml<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2824\" data-end=\"2848\">\n<p data-start=\"2826\" data-end=\"2848\">and a format <strong data-start=\"2839\" data-end=\"2848\">50 ml<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2850\" data-end=\"2940\">was not driven by product portfolio logic, but by systemic considerations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2942\" data-end=\"3102\">Overall weight, footprint, shipping, handling, post-purchase experience:<br \/>\neach variable was analyzed as an integral part of the brand experience.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3104\" data-end=\"3179\">Because the experience does not end at the moment of checkout. It starts there.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3181\" data-end=\"3288\">A project that ignores these aspects may well sell. But it can hardly scale without friction.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3295\" data-end=\"3356\">Production as a phase of responsibility, not compromise<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3358\" data-end=\"3509\">By the time the project went into production, many decisions had already been made. And this completely changed the role of the production phase.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3511\" data-end=\"3607\">The production was not a moment of compromise. It was a moment of <strong data-start=\"3588\" data-end=\"3606\">responsibility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3609\" data-end=\"3630\">Responsibility to:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3631\" data-end=\"3722\">\n<li data-start=\"3631\" data-end=\"3659\">\n<p data-start=\"3633\" data-end=\"3659\">the marginality of the brand<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3660\" data-end=\"3691\">\n<p data-start=\"3662\" data-end=\"3691\">the repeatability of the model<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3692\" data-end=\"3722\">\n<p data-start=\"3694\" data-end=\"3722\">sustainability over time<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3724\" data-end=\"3868\">The goal was not to \u201cdo as much as possible,\u201d but to build a production system that did not put the brand under pressure with every reorder.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3875\" data-end=\"3913\">The launch and the market response<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3915\" data-end=\"4067\">The launch took place <strong data-start=\"3936\" data-end=\"3959\">directly online<\/strong>, through social commerce channels. No intermediate steps. No traditional distribution.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4069\" data-end=\"4111\">The market response was immediate.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4113\" data-end=\"4151\">Not as a surprise. But as confirmation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4153\" data-end=\"4174\">Confirm that when:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4175\" data-end=\"4293\">\n<li data-start=\"4175\" data-end=\"4200\">\n<p data-start=\"4177\" data-end=\"4200\">the price is credible<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4201\" data-end=\"4225\">\n<p data-start=\"4203\" data-end=\"4225\">the design is consistent<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4226\" data-end=\"4251\">\n<p data-start=\"4228\" data-end=\"4251\">the experience is fluid<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4252\" data-end=\"4293\">\n<p data-start=\"4254\" data-end=\"4293\">the system was designed upstream<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4295\" data-end=\"4332\">the client does not have to be convinced. He decides.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4339\" data-end=\"4371\">What the Tony project teaches<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4373\" data-end=\"4471\">This project demonstrates an often uncomfortable truth: sell-out is not a goal to chase.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4473\" data-end=\"4493\">It is a <strong data-start=\"4478\" data-end=\"4492\">indicator<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4495\" data-end=\"4657\">It indicates that the system worked. That the decisions made upstream were correct. That the project was readable, credible and accessible at the right time.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4659\" data-end=\"4799\">When sell-out is treated as a goal, shortcuts are sought.<br data-start=\"4732\" data-end=\"4735\" \/>When treated as a consequence, systems are built.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4801\" data-end=\"4853\">And it is only in systems that brands are able to last.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4860\" data-end=\"4874\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4876\" data-end=\"4970\">The Tony project is not interesting because of the end result. It is interesting because of the path.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4972\" data-end=\"5128\">Because it shows that, in contemporary perfumery, the real value lies not in the individual product, but in the <strong data-start=\"5083\" data-end=\"5127\">quality of the decisions that precede it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5130\" data-end=\"5211\">And that is where a brand stops chasing the market and starts getting chosen.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"5218\" data-end=\"5257\">Editorial Note - Insight Journal<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"5258\" data-end=\"5321\">This article does not tell a success story.
